One-Man Army Developer Announces First Wargame

Frans Wikman from Finland has announced his debut game as an indie solo developer, Rogue Conflict, a turn-based wargame with procedurally generated battles, and complete with homemade original 2D pixel art.

Players old enough to remember games like Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty will see some resemblance to Rogue Conflict. Beating the enemy revolves around moving your resources into strategic positions on the battlefield.

“With 15 different army factions, each with unique strengths and weaknesses, there is a faction suited for every playstyle. Earn medals by successfully completing missions, allowing you to lead new factions,” the press release said.

Call The Shots

Rogue Conflict lets players step into the shoes of a faction leader and command troops, tanks, and planes in battle. Completing missions will be rewarded with Requisition Points that can be used for various upgrades of the military units, and medals to unlock more factions.

There are 15 factions in total, each with its own strengths and weaknesses to accommodate for a variety of playstyles.

Years in The Making

Wikman first said he was working on Rogue Conflict on his X (Twitter) profile in September 2022. Working alone, he’s developed the game and all its artwork on his own. The game is currently only available on PC.

The press release said that Wikman’s next goal is to further build on Rogue Conflict, ultimately turning it into a roguelike format.
